Romania’s airports set record after record every year for the growing number of passengers. It’s not only the main airport of the country, Henri Coanda but also smaller ones that received an unexpected surge in the number of visitors in the past years. With direct international flights and many options for domestic flights, flying to Romania remains the fastest way to start your vacation here.

To help you plan and decide, we prepared a complete guide to the best choices to fly to Romania, Bucharest, and everywhere else, from low-cost options to major carriers.

Luggage policies

One of the main aspects you have to consider when choosing the flight to Romania is the luggage policy of different carriers. Is your cabin baggage enough for the trip? Do you need checked-in luggage? How big is your luggage, and how many kgs are you going to pack? The answers to these questions impact the price of your tickets if planning to fly to Romania with a low-cost carrier like Wizz Air, Blue Air, or Ryanair.

For example:

Wizz Air allows one 10 kg hand baggage (55x40x23 cm) for free and charges for checked-in baggage (149x119x171 cm) from 14 Eur to 70 Eur for 20 kg and from 19 Eur to 120 Eur for 32 kg, depending on the season and where you purchased the allowance (online, airport, call center). The cheapest option is online. To be sure your hand luggage will be in the cabin, you must pay an extra fee for priority.

Blue Air allows one 10 kg hand baggage (55x40x20 cm) for free and charges checked-in baggage (100x80x30 cm) from 10 Eur to 60 Eur for 20 kg and from 15 Eur to 60 Eur for 32 kg, depending on the season and where you purchased the allowance (online, airport, call center). The cheapest option is online.

Ryanair allows one small hand luggage (35cm x 20cm x 20cm) for free and charges 6 Eur to 8 Eur for a 10 kg cabin baggage (55x40x23 cm), 8 Eur to 10 Eur for a 10 kg checked-in bag, and 25 Eur to 40 Eur for a 20 kg checked-in bag. The baggage excess weight fee is 10 Eur/kg at the airport.

Ryanair also has an infant fee of 25 Eur.
