Be part of the largest private conservation project in Europe, and choose a wildlife watching tour that makes a difference. Managed by the Foundation Conservation Carpathia that aims to save the wilderness of the Southern Romanian Carpathians, these wildlife watching programs are a core part of the organization's effort to protect Europe's wildest mountains. Profits obtained from the tours are used to finance the conservation work.
You can choose one of the two wildlife hides of the Foundation from Fagaras Mountains, Bunea and Comisu, depending on the kind of experience you prefer. Perfectly integrated into the natural environment, the hides are excellent choices for an experience you'll remember for a lifetime.Curious and excited about seeing the iconic brown bear, the biggest of the large carnivores? Fagaras Mountains, the highest group of the Carpathians, offer great opportunities if you are accompanied by the right guide to the right place.
As impressive as they are, the bears are not the only wild animals in the forest. Don't be surprised if you'll discover more wildlife tracks or even get a glimpse of the other mammals and birds that roam in the dense forests of the Fagaras Mountains.
The two wildlife hides offer overnight accommodation in the heart of nature. Based on the level of comfort, you can choose a more basic stay at Comisu or you can indulge yourself at Bunea where you'll find running water and organic meals.
You can easily combine your wildlife experience with a hiking itinerary in Fagaras, before or after the wildlife watching tour. Comisu hide is reachable only on foot from Plaiul Foii or Dambovita Valley while Bunea can be reached partially by car.
Tourism Manager & Guide
This was my favorite of the daytrips from Brasov! I loved being able to spend time in nature, completely away from other people and tourists. We saw tracks of bear, deer and boar during the trek, which the guide pointed out to me and explained. The guide Iulia was the highlight of the day - she was wonderful company, very passionate about nature and conservation, and tailored the trekking route to my needs. I feel that I learned a lot about animal tracking, and about the important conservation work that is taking place in the Romanian Carpathian mountains.
We really loved our time on this trip. It was absolutely magical to be up in the mountains, hiking in the wild, and staying in this beautiful cabin. Cristian was our guide. The man knows everything! He answered every question we had about the foundation, the park, Romania's history, our surroundings. We were stunned. He was so friendly, sorted my girlfriend out with some vegan nibbles, and wine for us upon arrival, and checked in with us every step of the way, giving us an amazing hike that was both manageable and comfortably challenging, for two hiking novices.
