Transylvania’s traditional villages started receiving a lot of well-deserved attention in the past years, but even so, you shouldn’t skip a visit to one or two of its most beautiful cities: Sibiu, Brasov, Cluj-Napoca, and Alba Iulia. All these cities have enough historical monuments and museums to keep you occupied and many more attractions to keep you entertained. Plus, Sibiu and Cluj-Napoca have international airports if you’d like to fly directly to Transylvania.

If you have at least 4-5 days for your holidays in Transylvania, do a day trip from Brasov to Sighisoara, Alba Iulia, and Sibiu. On your way, you can visit many famous places like Bran Castle or Rasnov Fortress, the fortified churches from the UNESCO list, and scenic villages like Viscri, Alma Vii, and Malancrav.

4. Walking and cycling

The region offers plenty of choices if you’d like to enjoy an active vacation. The Saxon villages from its south-east part are connected by many cycling trails, some short and easy, others longer and more difficult. All you have to do is choose the one that fits best with your plans.
